Jam for your gran

Mon 21 Jan '08

jam for your granGrans and Jam are probably two of the best things ever invented. This week we’re taking time to celebrate them both and setting you on a mission to ‘Make Some Jam For Your Gran.’ (If you haven’t got a Gran then may we suggest presenting your preserve to anyone you can think of who might need a bit of perking-up.) Our fruit of choice is the mighty apricot. Before
you start we should just point out that saucepans full of hot sugar can be seriously dangerous so if you’re little then enlist the help of someone big, strong and sensible.

Recipe

  • 6lbs Dried Apricot
  • 6lbs Sugar
  • 2 Lemons
  • 6 pints of water

To make the yummy jam…

  1. Wash the apricots and put them in a bowl with the water.
  2. Soak for them 24 hours.
  3. Put the apricots and water into a saucepan with the juice of 2 lemons.
  4. Bring to the boil and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally
  5. Remove the pan from the heat and gently stir in the sugar, until is has disappeared.
  6. Bring back to the boil and cook rapidly until the setting point is reached.
  7. Put the jam in a lovely jam jar
  8. Put your momiji jam pot cover on top of the jar and put the lid on.
  9. Stick your momiji made me do it label on, fill in the notecard and deliver to your gran
